I'm lying it's not that big.
With this list I'm going to explain why I like and/or dislike webcomics I'm reading or remember reading steadily at one point. I will probably leave a few out in the latter regard, but not on purpose.
Obviously, some of the comics I cover here won't have go-to links anymore, but I'll link to the ones that still do! If any sound interesting, I'd say give 'em a read!
The Old
Mall Monkeys is no longer with us today, but it was the first webcomic I had ever read. It was linked to me by my old pal Roy and was about the antics of various teen stereotypes working, hanging out, and sometimes living at a mall. Looking back on it now I think my sense of humor has changed too much to enjoy it the same way, but I still get a chuckle out of it now and then when I take a peak at old pages.
The comic ended in...I think it was like, 2004. Maybe 2005? I dunno. Anyway the creators went on to what I could only hope was better things. However there is an archive of the comics thanks to the way back machine. Only up to a certain point though, and it's a pretty shoddy archive. Still, at least the memories are there.
Jack was a webcomic I read all the way through one or two nights in 2003, when I was first introduced to it. It's a furry comic about the afterlife. Um, the Christian afterlife I believe. I went back and reread it last year and discovered I still think it's well-written. Obviously not well enough to keep me reading steadily, but it's not unreadable. The art's not really to my taste anymore, though. I figure if I can still read it again and enjoy it, it can't be too bad.
Ctrl+Alt+Del Was another comic I read all the way through like, a million years ago. I was able to keep up with it for like six months after that before I realized nothing was happening. Now I try looking back on it and I still can't tell if anything is happening. Now I can't say it never entertained me. I used to find it quite hilarious. Just...not anymore. The story to it is...I don't really know. If there's a story it's buried in sometimes funny game jokes. No offense to people who like it. I used to. It's just not entertaining to me anymore.
Least I Could Do is one I still find hilarious to this day. I just can't keep up with the update rate anymore. When I read a comic, I read it all the way through. Doing this with LICD took me roughly a week. Maybe a bit longer. Now, I'd have to find the place I last read it at years ago, and go through the cycle again. Just not worth it. I'd say read it anyway, though. It's a pretty great comic. Just make sure you have the time to do it if you're anything like me.
Sexy Losers has died and come back more than Jesus himself. I always found it hilarious, if a bit gross at times. It took all there is to know about porn and changed it from fap material to lulz material, and being a person that prefer lulz material it was right up my alley. It's not too hard to keep up with. It's just a matter of knowing when it's not updating ever again, and when it's back.
Pink Megaman Recolor gets an honorable mention here because I actually enjoyed reading it, even if it did make me feel dumber every time I did. A witty satire of sprite comics that were so popular at the turn of the century
If I can give a shout-out to everyone who made comics at Munkki back in the day I will. I just remember PMR the best cuz it made me even more retarded than I already am.
Chugworth! (formerly Chugworth Academy) was a comic that drew me in from the art instead of the story or humor. I stuck around mostly for the story. The humor...well, it wasn't the funniest thing I ever read, but I did laugh every now and then. It goes so long without updating frequently though, it's practically dead as it is. Eh, it happens.
Tomoyo42's Room is about...fuck, what is it about? I know it takes a few of the characters from Cardcaptor Sakura and puts them in horrible situations. The artist can really write some good stories, if you read any of the other comics on his site, but Tomoyo42 was the one that drew me to the site in the first place. I never finished it, and probably never will, but know if you feel compelled to read it, it's quite a disturbing comic. If your sense of humor isn't at its vilest, I wouldn't recommend this one to you.
Minus is over, and I really liked the note it ended on. This comic was done entirely in watercolor, and was as heartwarming as it was charmingly cute. It doesn't take too long too read, if I remember correctly, and you'll feel happy that you did. I only wish I had read it when it first came out, instead of waiting until after it was over to do so.
Loli Loves Venom was just a strange yet adorable comic about a little girl who took Spiderman's Venom and chose to keep him as a pet. It's hard to describe why I liked this comic. I guess it was just something fun to read from time to time. The art was also really good, for being as doki doki as it was.
The Present Day
Girly. I could write essay upon essay on why I love Girly, but I'll try not to do so right now. Girly is a comic I was introduced to by my old pal Jess in 2004, and I never, ever stopped reading it. Ever. This is probably the webcomic I've stuck to the longest, and those of you who know me well know that its artist/writer is my idol. The humor isn't very in your face, but still hilarious. The art has evolved from jagged anime girls to more cartoony, sexy
The story follows Otra and Winter, A hero and sidekick who go on various adventures in Cute Town and changing hte lives of everybody they meet. It's a shame it's almost over, but at the same time I'm glad it is. It's been around for longer than I've been reading it, after all.
You can bet I'm gonna read anything else Lesnick does, though. I recommend Girly to anyone, but not everyone.
UFO is by an artist I've been watching on multiple sites for years. I just started reading it about a year ago, though. I can't say I'm very steady with this one, but more steady than any of the ones in the previous list. So here it is. The art is cute and the story, while not too exciting, is quite enjoyable. It follows Ingrid, who is trying to save the planet from aliens who want to suck the Funk right out of it to power themselves. She's accompanied by an alien pig scientist, and his lovely daughter.
Octopus Pie is one I started reading around the end of last year, and I'm already in love with it. It seems to update by chapter, so you'll run into several periods of downtime. It's worth the wait, though.
It's about Eve Ning, living in New York with her roomate Hanna and Hanna's boyfriend Marek. The characters are quite likeable and relatable, the story is entertaining, and the art is very refreshing. I just can't think of a bad thing to say about this comic.
Dumm Comics has a lot of great reads, but my favorite two are 1930 Nightmare Theater and Skadi. Give them both a read yourself and you'll instantly see why. Be warned though, they can be a little gross, depending on your tastes.
Oglaf is another comic that takes porn and turns it into something utterly hilarious. It's never unfunny, updates weekly, and the art is fantastic. Obviously, it's NSFW.
Nedroid. I'll admit, I've never read this one all the way through (probably the only one I haven't, actually). Luckily it doesn't seem like you really have to to appreciate it for what it is. The art is simplistic and pleasant, and the humor is kind of out there. It's a great read when you're down and just need a good laugh.
Gastrophobia is probably the most recent one I started to read on my own, and I must say I like it. It takes place in historically innacurate (Oops wait, I mean accurate. My bad!) Greece, and is about an Amazon named Phobia, her son Gastro, and their manslave Klepto. It has a storyline, but I suggest you just read it on your own if you wanna know what it's about. Hopefully you won't be disappointed.
Everyone knows what VG Cats is about right now, so I'm not gonna say anything short of 'they should update more'. However, the comic I enjoy most from this site is Super Effective, a comedic retelling of the Gen. 1 Pokemon games. I probably don't need to say more about that either, but since I read them regularly they're on the list.
Speaking of shit I don't need to explain, Penny Arcade. Fuck you I enjoy it immensely.
Anders Loves Maria is one I read after it was over, and I highly suggest everyone give it a read. Just start from the beginning link instead of from the ending. It's a total waste if you're spoiled. And on that note, that's all I'll say about it too!
Hanna is Not a Boy's Name is about a man named Hanna, a loser of a paranormal investigator/whatever the hell he is who uses his whole ass half-assedly to solve paranormal cases. He's joined by his Zombie partner named "...", a vampire named Conrad, and sometimes some other freaky people. The art is fantastic, and though I felt the dialogue started out a little flat, it got better as it went, and the story itself was never a bore. I don't think it needs any more promotion, since it's already really popular, but hell, neither did half the shit on this list. I like this comic. Give it a read. The end.
Boxer Hockey is the best webcomic about the sport of hitting frogs with blunt objects down a field while in your underpants ever made. The story...there's a story. Really. You'll just get distracted by how hilarious and well drawn it is. If you must read any comic on this list, it'd be this one.
Rooster Teeth Comics probably won't be funny to everyone, and I wouldn't recommend them to just anyone either. However I enjoy them. There's not much to say about them. They're about the staff that makes RvB, and they're funny. That's it.
Johnny Wander is about the artist and writer of the comic in their daily lives, as well as a few touching unnatural side-stories. It's a great comic and quite entertaining. Great for people who enjoy slice of life or just need a nice giggle.
Lastly, lol comics. The title says it all.
And now, for a list of comics that have been suggested to me:
- Lackadaisy Cats, which I should have read ages ago.
- Shortpacked!
- No Pink Ponies (maybe)
- F@nboy$
- Axecop
- Dr.McNinja (been curious about it for a while)
- XKCD
- Questionable Content (the rest on that list are maybes)
- TFSU (ARE YOU HAPPY IOTA.)
- Nerfnow
- Tiny Kitten Teeth (maybe)
- Three Panel Soul
- A Softer World
- Bunny
- Book of Biff (Which I've read a bit of, but not enough to make mention of above)
- Hark! A Vagrant
- Schlock Mercenary (maybe)
- Looking for Group (big maybe)
- Gunnerkrigg Court
Make this list larger by suggesting some comics! And thank you for the suggestions so far. Looks like I'm in for a read!
And hey, if you like any of the comics I listed, let's rap man. If any sound interesting, read 'em. Just knowing that I've shown someone something new and enjoyable would really make my day at this point. Yes I'm aware of how retarded that sounds.
Hope I gave someone else something nice to read. And know all these comics have been a big help in my own little project as well. I'm learning!
Ah, I do so love webcomics~.

I used to enjoy No Pink Ponies, but it loses its charm in my opinion. I used to relate to it a lot. Being a girl into comic books.
AND OBVIOUSLY I DO LOVE ME SOME PENNY ARCADE!

I dunno how well I'd relate to it and No Pink Ponies, but I'm willing to give both a try.
As for Penny Arcade, I know people who don't like it, but I can't really find anything unlikable about it myself. 8D So obviously I'm with ya 100% on that one.

XKCD is amazing, but is often very technical.
Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal is a great one-shot comic, and it updates every day.
And The Nonadventures of Wonderella is fantastic if you have any interest in super heroes and/or irresponsible sarcasm.

I am going to have to check out a few of these! At least more than I already have. I'm already keeping track of Boxer Hockey and Octopus Pie thanks to you, and I need to catch up on Oglaf too. B|
As for more suggestions... Hmm.
Definitely going to suggest XKCD. It's... hit or miss sometimes, humor-wise, but some of the strips aren't supposed to be funny as near as I can tell. And it's sometimes very math and science oriented so sometimes IT IS BEYOND ME. But it is very cute and occasionally absolutely hilarious. There's no real continuity to it, so feel free to start anywhere. (Also, remember to look at the alt text!)
A Softer World is, too, hit or miss when it comes to humor. It's not supposed to be a hugely funny webcomic, and some of the punch lines are, again, delivered through alt text. All of the comics are delivered through photographs, and it can be surreal and occasionally sad or bittersweet, but it's one of those that's got me hooked, and even if I don't check it for long stretches of time, I always go back to it and catch up. Also has no continuity.
Surviving the World appears to be down right now, server-wise. But it is BEAUTIFUL, basically one guy using a blackboard in a college classroom in order to deliver Important Life Lessons and answer Interesting Questions and Puzzles. Another one of those with no storyline and no continuity. :T
... Also going to pop in here with Cyanide & Happiness. Which is occasionally extremely offensive, occasionally very inappropriate, but mostly bizarre and/or hilarious enough (especially when they got past the groping phase... mostly) that it deserves a mention. Though I'm sure that, like XKCD, you've heard of it by now. C:
One that I actually stopped reading a while back but has never totally left my head is Bunny. Yet another with little to no continuity (though the last twenty-some seem to have turned into a VERY surreal dream sequence), it's a ridiculously cute one-panel strip that usually makes me giggle.
SPEAKING OF ONE-PANEL COMICS. Unlike the others on this list, The Book of Biff is a comic that has never not made me laugh. It's kind of dry but incredibly surreal, but that fits my sense of humor just fine, apparently. 8| The entire comic is about a guy named Biff who may or may not be a god of some sort due to how reality sort of gets... weird for him. Usually the comics are about fairly mundane things, though, like the importance of eating vegetables, what a bad idea it can be to yank on your fridge door if it has wheels, how you shouldn't paint everything in your house the exact same color if you ever want to find your remote control, what a good invention the breader would be if you decided you suddenly didn't want toast, etc.
Another one you may have heard of but never actually checked out (as it was with me for MONTHS :|) is Hark! A Vagrant. ... Actually, I can't explain it much better than that comic on the front page there already does. Like pretty much everything else on this list, there is almost no continuity -- I read it backwards except for one short storyline and it made as much sense as anything else -- but it's funny and if you like history at all it'll probably make it even better. YOU HAVE TO BRING A SWORD TO A SWORDFIGHT, MUSASHI.

2/2?!
And finally OH BOY THE ONE COMIC I READ (besides Lackadaisy Cats which you already have covered AND SHOULD READ btw) that has any sort of actual storyline to it! Schlock Mercenary is about a band of mercenaries called Tagon's Toughs, who take jobs throughout the universe in their unending quest to get paid a lot of money, more than once for the same job if possible. The art style has improved immensely since the days of the first strip, but it's always had a pretty damn interesting storyline, and the author's storytelling abilities have only gotten better with time. This is one of those that updates daily, though, so if you wanna read it be ready for archive binges (especially since it started in 2000).... also, by the same author as Least I Could Do, Looking For Group. It's about a good, kind, elven hero named Cale'anon, and his companions, which include a completely evil undead warlock named Richard, a half-troll priestess named Benn'Joon, and Benny's adoptive father, the ox-like Krunch Bloodrage. Though it started out obviously for laughs, and it still has definite funny moments (mostly thanks to Richard), it's got a great story. And it's not updated nearly as often. :>
........ WOW THIS IS A LONG LIST. Uh... you're welcome? |D;;; If you do wind up reading any of these, I hope you enjoy them! /o/ ♥

Yay icon is relevant
Gunnerkrigg Court. It's an ongoing comic about a girl who got transferred into a weird school after her mother's death. I,m glossing over the plot here because, apart from having bizarre after bizarre incidents, the whole plot is a giant jigsaw puzzle with barely nothing answered yet. As soon as something is solved, it only raises ten more questions. If you skip from the last panel to the first chapter, you'll see there's a BIG art shift, but don't worry, art evolution gets better after a while.March 9 2010, 06:12:42 UTC 2 years ago

Did you ever read RPGWorld back in the day? It was so awesome. :'(

I have a joint webcomic with a friend of mine. Well, there's not really much of a webcomic aspect, but it posts an image every day around midnight if there is stuff in the archive. I just recently put stuff in there so it's going to be updating for like two weeks. More if I draw more shit for it!
